Letters from central america
Hello xxxxxx
I hope you are all OK,
Today has been a shaking day really; we started to build a house and I have worked in torrential rain building with blocks and cement a little house for a family whose poverty is beyond words, I was really shocked, it is a very humbling experience for me, having led the privileged life I have, today I have had the most motivating day I have had for a very long time.
The working day is long but I will still try to keep in touch,
The family is so nice here, and little by little the conversation is coming, as you well know people are linked by values always and this transcends any communications difficulties we have.
My digestion has settled down I lost a lot of weight last week, but this week I am hungry which is better I reckon?

Hi kids
Today has been the hardest day physically we laid the concrete floor all mixed by hand, the team are such a great bunch we have a real ball all day long.
One of the volunteers is leaving today and he will be really missed he is fit and strong and does a great deal so we all will need to step it up a bit next week.
I have now passed the half way point and I am confident I will see it through, I am going to buy a bit of land next week so we can build a house for a very poor family, I will tell you all about it when I see you, I know you would support my decision, you would both love it here.
Next week is a bitsa week, we will complete this house Monday and then I am going with Oscar (the project director) to a remote community where the money for the land will be spent (Tuesday)
Wednesday is a very big religious festival here so a day off and Thursday we start the next house
Fitness wise I am coping but I can feel myself tired now, many cuts and bruises no big deal the main thing is to stay well
Dad

Dear xxx
Thanks so much for this, I really appreciate your understanding, this has been a very tough trip one way and another I am standing up to it OK but definitely not myself, needing to plan the day so I am near to the facilities! and the weight is still dropping off, I have plenty of drugs (as if I wouldn't) and I am determined to finish this trip.
The money has gone through to the project which I am delighted about, will tell you all about it when we meet, I met the single mum who will be the beneficiary yesterday, hard to think of someone more needy I just wanted to give her everything I had.
Today was tough but in a different way, we started the next house which is great but to do so we had to demolish one of the shacks the family currently were using, this we did and as we did, rats were running in every direction and very large insects, beetles and spiders especially; were falling on us I have been bitten pretty good today and picked up some dog fleas I think.
So not nice to know tonight!
Tomorrow is a cement day, and then more of the same next week, I am very hopeful I will see this one finished before I leave.

Hi xx
Thanks so much for this, we went to the place where the house will be built today and met the single mum (Maria) she is a fugitive from a violent husband, I will tell you all about it of course, she spoke to us today about her life in wracking sobs with her 6 children around her, a very emotional day for all of us there.
I have been to the doctor again re the bug and he wants me to have blood tests either here if it gets worse or in the UK when I get back.
Yesterday we completed a house and gave the keys to the family, not a dry eye in the house!
Rode a motorbike all through the mountains today just a little scrambler, definitely getting one of those
Love
Bill
